Parents & Guardians
Everything you need to know about getting your child involved with Oban Lorne RFC.
Welcome to Oban Lorne RFC
Rugby union is one of the most rewarding sports a young person can take up. Beyond the game itself, it builds lifelong friendships, confidence, and character. At Oban Lorne RFC, we believe every child deserves the chance to play — including those who are home-schooled or whose school doesn't offer rugby.
Our club is built on the core values of rugby:
These aren't just words — they shape how we coach, how we expect players to behave on and off the pitch, and how we welcome everyone into our club community. We'd love to have your child with us.
Getting Started
Find your child's team
Visit the Teams page and find the right age group for your child.
Join your team on Spond
Each team page has a link to their Spond group. Spond is how we communicate with parents — training updates, session cancellations, and messages from coaches all come through here. Join your team's group as soon as possible to stay in the loop.
Complete SCRUMS registration
Register your child on the SRU's SCRUMS system at scrums.sru.org.uk. This is required for SRU insurance cover and is separate from Spond.
Pay membership fee
Membership fees can be paid via the club. Your child's coach will be in touch once you're registered to get things sorted.
Membership Fees
Youth (High School Age)

Membership fees include SRU insurance cover via SCRUMS. Please ensure your child's SCRUMS registration is complete before their first session.
Training & What to Expect
Training days, times and locations are listed on the Teams page for each age group. Here's some general guidance to help your child get started:
- Wear appropriate sports clothing and boots (moulded or soft stud rugby boots recommended).
- Bring a water bottle to every session.
- Dress for the weather — layers are always a good idea in Scotland!
- Spond is our primary communication channel between coaches and parents. All session updates, cancellations and messages from coaches come through Spond — please make sure you're signed up to your team's group.
- You can also contact coaches directly by email. Contact details for each team lead are listed in the Key Contacts section below.
Away Games
When youth teams travel for away fixtures, clear expectations apply for transport, supervision and parent/guardian responsibilities. Please read our Away Game Policy before your child participates in an away match.
Social Media
We ask all parents and guardians to read our Social Media Code of Conduct and our Acceptable Behaviour Policy. Rugby is a community sport and the way we all conduct ourselves online — including comments about refereeing, opponents and our own players — reflects on the entire club.
School of Rugby
Oban Lorne RFC is proud to work in partnership with Oban High School (OHS) as part of the SRU's School of Rugby programme. This initiative builds a pathway between school and community rugby, helping young players develop their skills and stay connected to the game.
