Match report

Hamilton U16s 43 – 56 Oban U16s

September 3, 2023

13 Oban boys travelled to face a 25 man Hamilton squad on a nice pitch and great day for running rugby.

Oban started slowly, legs still on the bus and Hamilton scored three unanswered in the first 15 mins to take a commanding 21-0 lead.

Oban began to get their feel for the game started to improve with two quick tries from Archie Johnston and Donald McCormick both successfully converted by Liam MacLennan

Just before HT Hamilton challenged and scored again, keeping Oban chasing.

HT H26- O 14

Oban started the 2nd half with just 12 players whilst Dougie Brown had his shoulder iced but came back on after the perfect start from Oban with another try from MacCormick, converted by Maclennan 26-21.

With Hamilton using their squad to the full with fresh legs coming on they replied with two tries.

Scores at both ends kept the game open, Oban’s being scored by Maclennan

This is where the game changed with 15 minutes left the boys started to really click into gear and broke down Hamilton in all areas of the game to get four unanswered tries, a hat trick from scrum half Joe and a second for hooker Maclennan Liam again and Joe all brilliantly converted by Maclennan.

Everybody put in a great shift to finish this game off with our fitness showing better than Hamilton’s towards the end

With great set and control from the forwards at each restart, this allowed the backs to build and improve on last week and make the gain line helping the team go forward.

The performance was an all team effort, from the slow start to the strong finish. A difficult call for man of the match as this whole team effort was impressive but Liams drive and dedication was noteworthy.

This game marked a milestone in this team’s development, where they took ownership of decisions on the pitch and came together as a team.

A great day out!!
